How Do You Survive A Road Trip With Kids
Family road trips are a perfect moment for bonding. It’s essential that ones in a while we take time and travel together and see new places. Many people dread this period, especially if they have kids who are to be tagged along. That’s why they opt to stick to in-town sights.
Kids can be angels and a nightmare during the road trip. It all depends on how you’re going to handle them and how involved they are in the entire process for planning that’s selecting the destination.
If everything is your idea, then be sure you will have a hard time. So, to ensure that you have a memorable road trip, you can adopt the following strategies.
1. Carry Healthy Snacks and refreshments
Carrying healthy snacks will keep the children busy. A hungry kid is a menace, and you know you need total concentration when driving. But avoid having the kids taking heavy meals while in the car. Eating outside will ensure they don’t dirt the vehicle.
2. Always take stops
You can take stops for main meals, set up a picnic site, and enjoy your meal. The stops should not be for meals alone but also for stretches and walks that will drain the excess energy in the children.
Driving for a long time can be frustrating for any child and adults alike. Learn the distance between stop points to know the precise stops you are going to make.
3. Grant your children a voice
As you drive to allow the children to choose where to stop. Giving them a voice or say will instill some sense of independence and they will most probably behave themselves. Let everyone have a choice to make after every 2hrs or so.
4. Reward the Children
I am sure we do this now and then at home. Rewarding good behavior in your kids will go a long way in making them calm and quiet. The rewards during a road trip can be having a say on what they should eat.
5. Ipads
Though it’s bonding time, pads can go a long way in keeping the kids busy playing games or listening to music at the back. You can visit the website and download songs or games the night before.
Ipads function well towards the end of the journey when everyone is tired and uncomfortable.
There are other ways, such as playing games and engaging the kids in singing along to their favorite songs. Whatever you do ensure the kids are comfortable and eager to see the new places. But the key is harmony and peace, ensure that if you’re a couple, you never quarrel.
